Horde, SquirrelMail or RoundCube

How to set up webmail to go directly to Horde, SquirrelMail or RoundCube

There are two ways to acheive this feat, by setting up an autoloader of your preferred webmail client or by setting up a custom subdomain for your webmail.

Setup Webmail to "Autoload" to the direct client

You will need to access your webmail either by going into your cPanel and clicking on the "Email Accounts" icon or you can directly use the secure webmail URL.

  1. Log into your email account
  2. Click "Enable AutoLoad" under the one of the three webmail clients that you prefer.
  3. Choose the seconds that you like for the delay before your preferred webmail client, if you would like it to automatically load your client after logging into your webmail, then choose "1".

To Disable AutoLoad, simply follow the directions above and click "Disable AutoLoad".

Setting up a Custom Subdomain for Your Webmail

The other option is setting up your webmail client URL as a custom subdomain, which will function the same as the long URLs listed above or by accessing webmail by cPanel. In order to do this, you will need to do the following:

  1. Login to the webmail program you prefer. You can get there by going to your-domain.com/webmail. You'll need to login using a username (which is the full email address) and password.
  2. Once you have logged into webmail, click on the webmail program of your choice.
  3. Copy the url in your address bar. It will look something like the long URLs aforementioned in our article, Webmail Direct URLs.
  4. Once you have the URL you'll be wanting to use, login to your cPanel.
  5. In cPanel, setup a subdomain called something like myemail.example.com (you can do this by clicking on the "subdomains" icon in cPanel).
Do NOT use mail.example.com as these particular subdomains are already in use on the server and attempting to use them as subdomains can result in conflicts.
  6. After you've setup the subdomain in your cPanel, setup a "redirect" for the subdomain (by clicking on the "subdomains" icon). You will need to setup the redirect so the subdomain goes to the URL of the webmail program of your choice.
